Most dental professionals think of fluoride for caries prevention, but fluoride alone is not sufficient for some high risk patients. This presentation will include a review of the caries process with emphasis on specific risk factors such as xerostomia and pH levels. Evidence based products and techniques will be discussed along with techniques for assessing salivary flow and caries risks. AGD Code:  257

In this session, attendees will learn to:

  • Identify patients’ risk for caries as high, moderate or low and list ADA recommendations for their fluoride use
  • List the 3 ADA approved fluoride concentrations and techniques for professional use
  • Discuss evidence based Xylitol, calcium and antimicrobial products for home use in caries prevention
  • Discuss the implications of dry mouth and list the steps for assessment and products for treatment

Ms. Donna Warren Morris
Donna Warren Morris, RDH, MEd is currently on the faculty at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. She is a professor in the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene where she teaches prevention to dental and dental hygiene students. Ms. Warren Morris is also on faculty of the Houston Geriatric Education Center, a member of the UT Consortium on Aging and is a member of the ADHA.

He practices fee for service general dentistry and doctor’s defense law in Carrollton, Texas.
