The Star of the South will hold its 11th annual Photography Contest in 2008. All photography contest entries will be displayed at the Photo Contest Pavilion inside the exhibit hall.
Categories
- People (portrait or person as dominant feature)
- Animal (portrait or action)
- Humor
- Still Life
- Landscape/Cityscape (urban or rural scenes)
- Special Effects/Abstract (patterns, blurs, light painting/altered or enhanced photos including infrared, hand painting, sandwiches, computer enhancements, etc.)
- Texas (scenes, objects, animals, people, etc. that exemplify the great state of
Texas (must be shot in Texas )
Awards
All winning photographs will receive a ribbon. Ribbons will be awarded for first, second, third in each category. A Best of Show, Best Texas Scenic, and Best Texas Portrayal will also be chosen.
Rules
- Mail entry form, payment, and photography to the address on the Photography Contest Entry Form.
- This contest is open only to amateur photographers who are members of the dental profession (dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, lab personnel, administrative staff, dental students, etc.). All entries must be the work of the contestant.
- Entries may be either color or black & white. Each contestant is allowed a maximum of six (6) entries, but no more than two (2) in any one category.
- All entries from any category are eligible for TEXAS awards if they are identified as Texas photos.
- All photos must be 8 x 10 prints. No other sizes will be accepted. Each photo must be mounted on 11 x 14 white (only) mat board. Only white over mounts are allowed. No frames or glass accepted.
- The information labels provided must be adhered to the back of each photo. Incomplete entry forms or labels may disqualify the entry. Photocopies of the forms are acceptable. If you have any questions, call (713) 961-4337.
- All photographers submitting entries must be registered to attend the 2008 Star of the South Dental Meeting.
- Pre-registration will open November 1, 2008
Deadlines
All entries must be received by February 22, 2008.
Fee
The entry fee per photographer is $10 regardless of the number of photos entered.
Liability and Release
Photo entries are required to remain on display until the exhibit hall closes at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29. Photos may be collected anytime between 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Show Office on Saturday, March 29. If you would like the Star of the South to mail your photos back to you after the meeting, please include a self-addressed stamped photo mailer when you send in your entries. The Star of the South Dental Meeting is not responsible for photographs lost or damaged in the mail or at the meeting. If the participant fails to collect his/her photos during the time allotted on March 29 or does not include a self-addressed stamped photo mailer for the Star of the South to return the entry to the participant, the photos will become the property of the Star of the South Dental Meeting. In addition, all contestants hereby permit the Star of the South to use photos submitted in reproductions or publications as they deem appropriate.
Entry Information
The Photo Contest Entry Form will be available beginning November 1, 2007. Entries may be submitted from November 1, 2007 to February 22, 2008.
