T25 – Common Oral Conditions in the Geriatric Population

Certain oral conditions and lesions are more common in geriatric patients and can significantly affect quality of life. The challenge of living with conditions such as chronic candidiasis, xerostomia/salivary hypofunction, desquamative gingivitis and burning mouth syndrome increases morbidity resulting in systemic problems such as poor nutrition. This lecture will review the challenges of managing common oral lesions in geriatric patients.

Learning Objectives:
• Identify challenges to oral health in older patients
• Recognize common oral lesions and conditions in the geriatric population
• Develop treatment plans to address specific oral health issues affecting older patients
