The Implementation and Application of Teledentistry – Ms. Amber Lovatos, 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. This course will address the various applications of telecommunication in dentistry. This will include examples of teledentistry models and how practitioners can implement telecommunication in their practice. We will also discuss other teledentistry considerations such as technology, legality, malpractice, and HIPAA.

How Sugar is Killing Us and Our Smiles – Ms. Tulsi Patel, 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Research shows that the sugar consumption rate in the United States is growing exponentially and it is becoming the silent killer of more than just our smiles. This lecture will help the participant become more aware of how sugar is impacting our quality of life, work performance and overall health.

Emergencies in the Dental Clinic – Dr. Ransome van der Hoeven and Mr. Douglas Chappell, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Up to three quarter of medical emergencies, that occur in the dental clinic may be preventable through the implementation of a system of patient evaluation, management and treatment modification. Therefore, it is essential that all personnel be able to improve and maintain their skill in the prevention, recognition and management of medical emergencies that will inevitably occur in a dental clinic.

Assessing and Addressing Dry Mouth – Ms. Donna Warren Morris, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Assessing patients for hyposalivation involves a simple and easy procedure and can assist dental professionals in more accurately determining a patient’s disease risk and recommending appropriate therapies. This presentation will include a review of the etiology of, techniques for assessing and a review of products and strategies for treating hyposalivation.
