This lecture will explore and discuss the architectural trend of bio-informed design and its possible implications within the dental setting.

Dental Unit Waterlines: Challenges and Solutions -1-hour
This lecture will discuss the challenges and solutions in maintaining dental unit waterlines and present the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations for maintenance of dental unit water quality.

• Define biofilm and its role in the contamination of dental unit waterlines
• Discuss the background of the problem of dental unit waterlines
• Identify the primary source of bacteria and other microorganisms in dental unit water
• Describe the Centers for Disease Control {CDC) recommendations for maintenance of dental unit water quality

Going Green in the Dental Office – 1-hour
The average dental practice produces vast amounts of waste per year ranging from infection control disposables to office supplies. It is our
responsibility as oral health-care professionals and citizens of this planet to do our part in preserving our natural resources and minimizing the waste we produce. This lecture will discuss various solutions in creating an eco-friendly dental practice.

• Discuss the movement of green dentistry
• Discuss the four R’s of eco-friendly dentistry
• Discuss various eco-friendly dental products
• Demonstrate how to do an environmental scan and devise a “green” plan of action
