T17 – Enhancing Compliance with the New TSBDE Sedation Permit Rules

This lecture is designed to familiarize Texas dentists holding ALL levels of sedation permits, including nitrious oxide, with new TSBDE
requirements for a preoperative checklist, emergency preparedness and the prevention and management of sedation/anesthesia emergencies
(TSBDE Rules 110.13, 110.14, and 110.15). Emphasis will be placed on implementation of these requirements into your dental practice using
readlily available resources to enhance dental office compliance with the new rules.
Learning Objectives:
• Learn to complete a preoperative checklist for sedation, including patients ASA classification, airway assessment and an anesthesia-specific
physical examination
• Learn to develop office protocols and a response plan for managing anesthesia-related emergencies and maintain ongoing documentation of staff training, emergency drug and equipment availability and assignment of staff members to specific roles during an emergency
• Learn how to incorporate the use of an AED, appropriate monitoring devices, suction and other airway management devices, and, as applicable, auscultation into the management of dental patients undergoing sedation/anesthesia procedures
